Empire/Victorian transitional, scroll arm, arm chair, circa 1840-1855.
The serpentine-arched top rail, the seat rail and arm facings rail are heavily carved with a reticulated leaf scroll.
The top rail is flanked by further scroll shaped carvings at each end.
Further carved decoration can be found on the deep shaped skirt carved with a repeat of the foliated scroll work.
The frame boasts attractive up-swept scroll end arms decorated with foliated carvings that continue through to decorate the curved splay chair legs.
At the end of the chair legs are carved scrolls that serve as the feet for the arm chair.
The chair is walnut and has been upholstered in a top quality silk fabric, hand spun in South Korea, decorated with a foliate pattern, in shades of red.
